Muisc Poll.

So, I came home from the pub last night, and decided that I wanted to listen to some music. The problem was, I had NO idea what I wanted to listen to. So I started asking people on my facebook to name one song for me to listen too, and I'd put them in a playlist. And as people started suggesting completely different things, I realised it might be rather interesting to make a list of 100 songs from internet suggestions, and see what songs, genres and bands seemed to be most popular.
I used internet forums, social network sites, and even chat room type sites like omegle, to gather together this playlist. For those who have spotify and want to listen to the the songs, I'll post the link at the end. And for those who want to add their own songs into the it, I shall make an updated version when I get more song suggestions!
So first we'll talk about the songs. I was definitely surprised to only encounter my first (and only) duplicate entry at number 84! 83 Original songs before a duplication!
It would seem that the most popular song on the internet is "Map of the problematique" by muse, with muse also being the band with the most number of suggestions. (Again, if you have any problems with this information, comment with a song choice and I'll update it for a 200 people selection.)
Now it's time for what I think is the important part. The genres.
There is a nice spread of genres in this playlist. So I will list the genres, along with the number of songs in each. (The genre choice is taken from the average genre choice from the websites I visited for each song)
Here goes, from lowest to highest:
  • Metalcore: 1
  • Trock: 1*
  • New age: 1
  • blues: 1
  • Jazz: 1
  • Soundtrack: 1
  • Punk: 1
  • Comedy: 1
  • Symphonic rock: 1
  • House: 2
  • Prog. rock: 2
  • Country: 2
  • R&B: 3
  • Electronic: 3
  • Metal: 3
  • Electro: 3
  • Rap: 4
  • folk: 4
  • Indie: 5
  • hiphop: 7
  • Pop-rock: 10
  • Alternative Rock: 10
  • Pop: 10
  • Rock: 23

Which would mean, if we were all on family fortunes, that rock is the top answer!! (Wooooo)

*Like most of you, I had NO idea what trock is. Turns out, trock is time-lord rock. Which means that one of the bands is basically a band about doctor who.
Which means I have a new favourite band: Chameleon circuit.

Ps. Heres the spotify url and http link:

So that's it for today. I'm sure I'll have a new post tomorrow!
